The University of the Southwest, an NAIA Division I intercollegiate athletic program and a proud member of the Red River Athletic Conference, announces an immediate opening for the position of Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach.

This position will be responsible for assisting the Head Women’s Soccer Coach with the organization, development and direction of the Women’s Soccer program according to the goals and objectives of an NAIA intercollegiate athletic program at the local, regional and national level. This position reports directly to the Head Coach of the Women’s Soccer team. Qualified applicants who also possess ministerial background may also have an opportunity to serve with Campus Ministry.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
a. Assist the Head Coach in all assigned duties with the program in order to attain maximum success for the program on the local, regional and national level.
b. Assist the Head Coach with assigned responsibility for evaluation and contact with prospective student-athletes and make recommendations to the Head Coach in this regard. Specifically, the assistant coach will be responsible for:
1. Assist the Head Coach with the organization of all recruiting files and correspondence with recruits, including video tapes, high school/college transcripts and game schedules.
2. Assist the Head Coach with the initiation, maintenance and monitoring of all correspondence, phone contact and other permissible communication with designated prospective student-athletes.
3. Assist the Head Coach with the observation and evaluation of athletic skills of prospective student-athletes at permissible athletic contests, combines etc.
4. Make recommendations to the Head Coach regarding the selection of prospective student-athletes and the distribution of athletic scholarships.
5. Assist the Head Coach in providing the initial determination of the prospect’s preliminary academic eligibility according to the prospect’s high school and/or junior college transcripts.
6. Attend permissible clinics, camps and combines during the summer within permissible time periods in order to evaluate prospective student-athletes when provided with the opportunity to do so.
7. Assist the Head Coach with the planning and execution of official and unofficial visits for prospective student-athletes.
c. Assist the Head Coach with the planning and execution of all team practices and individual skill sessions.
d. Assist the Head Coach with the planning and execution of all off-season and in-season strength and conditioning programs.
e. Assist the Head Coach with the organization and execution of all team travel details including air and ground transportation, hotel reservations and meals for the travel party.
f. Assist the Head Coach with the implementation, maintenance and monitoring of all athletic compliance related activities.
g. Assist the Head Coach with the program’s budget management operations in order to insure fiscal responsibility.
h. Assist the Head Coach and the Athletic Game Management Liaison with the development, implementation and execution of promotional activities regarding identified athletic contests.
i. Provide active participation regarding the University and Department of Athletics community involvement/outreach efforts with the campus community, local community and alumni.
j. Represent the University, Department of Athletics and specific sport program at local, regional and national meetings when provided with the opportunity to do so.
k. Insure that all actions on the part of oneself and those of the student-athletes connected to the program represent the mission and goals of the Department of Athletics and the University.
l. Other duties as assigned by the Head Women’s Soccer Coach and/or Vice President for Institutional Development & Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
m. If applicable, other duties as assigned by the Campus Pastor.
Position Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
A minimum of 3 years coaching and recruiting experience as an Assistant Coach at the NCAA / NAIA intercollegiate level is preferred. Candidates who possess a demonstrated track record of successful coaching / playing experience at the Intercollegiate / High School and/or Club level will also receive consideration.
Knowledge of the skills and techniques of the sport at the intercollegiate level of competition.
Must possess the ability to successfully identify, evaluate and sign quality student-athletes who possess the ability to succeed academically and athletically at the intercollegiate level and to conduct all student-athlete recruitment efforts in an organized and strategic manner.
Must possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of NAIA, affiliated Conference, departmental and University compliance rules and regulations as well as a commitment to those ideals.
