South Dakota School of Mines & Technology is searching for an individual to fill a combined position of Assistant Soccer Coach/Assistant of Athletic Communications. This is a 12 month benefited position at 100% effort from July 22 to May 21 and 50% effort from May 22 to July 21. This individual will serve under the supervision of both the Head Men's Soccer Coach and the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Communications.
Expectations for this position as it relates to soccer include the ability to plan and operate soccer practices; serving as liaison for the soccer program to officials, visiting teams, coaches and others as assigned; previous soccer playing experience at the collegiate level and a minimal soccer licensure; recruiting as assigned by Head Soccer Coach; the ability to demonstrate soccer skills; possession of a valid driver's license; a thorough knowledge of soccer skills and strategies; tracking academic progress of soccer team members; and other soccer duties as assigned.
Within the area of athletic communications, the necessary attributes are a basic understanding of journalism and the ability to write press releases; knowledge of appropriate computer skills to run applicable game statistic programs for a variety of sports; a willingness to learn basic photography skills; the ability to communicate effectively with media personnel; a basic understanding of a variety of athletic sports in order to operate/call stat programs; and other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Communications.
The successful candidate will possess an earned bachelor degree. Prior collegiate soccer playing experience is also required.
